A spreading semi dwarf hybrid of the Lagerstroemia indica,
produced by the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. Hopi
conveniently reaches a height of only 10’ tall unlike
its much taller ancestors, allowing it to be used more in the
home landscape. Clear light pink 5 in. flower panicles bloom from
June to September. Leaves are yellow, orange, and red in fall.
Blooms until frost in the southern U.S. It is the most hardy of
the semi-dwarf cultivars, withstood -24F. Like most tree Crapes,
suckers are trimmed from the base and pulled from the ground, to
give it that bonsai look. Mildew-resistant. Good cold hardiness.
Perfect in patio containers, also makes an attractive hedge or screen.
