Magnolia stellata, commonly called star magnolia, is native to Japan.
It is a small deciduous tree that typically grows 15-20’ tall with
a spreading, rounded crown. It is also often grown as a large oval to
rounded shrub. Flowers emerge from pink buds. In comparison to species
plants, the flowers of 'Waterlily' are slightly larger and are less
floppy, resulting in a waterlily-like appearance. Fall color ranges from
respectable gold to mediocre brownish-yellow. These magnolias are 2-3 ft.
tall and shipped in containers with a soilless media and a 9 month slow
release fertilizer.
